The Australian Psychological Society (APS) publishes a recommended hourly rate (currently $311 per hour). Fees are set below this full rate to make services more accessible and reduce barriers to care.
The total cost of a clinical neuropsychological assessment depends on the length and complexity of the evaluation. A personalised quote is provided prior to commencing.
As a guide, most assessments involve 10–15 hours of professional time, which may include:
Initial interview and background history
Cognitive testing
Scoring and interpretation
Comprehensive report writing
Feedback session
Unfortunately, neuropsychological assessments are not currently eligible for a Medicare rebate. Some private health insurance policies may provide partial rebates, depending on the fund and level of cover.
-
Some private health insurance policies may provide rebates for psychology services. Coverage varies widely between funds, and not all insurers cover neuropsychological assessment.
Clients wishing to explore this option are encouraged to contact their health fund directly and ask:
Whether their extras policy covers clinical psychology or neuropsychology services
What rebate amount applies per session or per hour
Whether a GP referral or specific item code is required
Invoices include the relevant provider details if documentation is needed to process a claim.

Services can be funded through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) or the National Injury Insurance Scheme, Queensland (NIISQ).
For NDIS participants, services are billed under Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living, in line with the NDIS Price Guide.
For NIISQ participants, services are billed directly in accordance with the NIISQ fee schedule.

Medicare rebate: $24.80 per session may be available under a Mental Health Care Plan
Private health insurance: Some funds may provide partial rebates, depending on the policy

To secure your appointment, a non-refundable deposit of $500 is required upon booking. This amount can be used towards the total cost of an assessment. The remaining balance is payable on the day of your assessment.
Reports will not be issued until all accounts are paid in full.
-
As a significant amount of time is reserved for assessment appointments, at least 2 business days’ notice is required for cancellations or rescheduling.
If less than 2 business days’ notice is provided, a cancellation fee of $500 (equivalent to the deposit) may be charged.
We understand that delays can happen. However, if you arrive more than 30 minutes late, we may need to reschedule the appointment to ensure the quality of your assessment. This may be treated as a late cancellation and subject to a fee.
