Neuropsychological Assessments

Detailed cognitive assessments to support diagnosis, rehabilitation, and care planning for people experiencing changes in thinking, memory, or behaviour due to neurological conditions.

Common Reasons for Referral

  • Memory concerns – difficulty remembering information

  • Unexplained cognitive changes – changes in thinking, attention, or problem-solving

  • Monitoring cognitive change over time – tracking progress in conditions such as multiple sclerosis, dementia, or brain injury

  • Cognitive changes pre- or post-surgery – evaluating function before or after medical procedures

  • Support for return-to-work or daily function – identifying strengths and challenges to guide strategies and planning

What to Expect

Interview and Testing
The appointment begins with a clinical interview to review concerns and relevant medical, psychological, and background history. Testing may include memory, attention, language, processing speed, and other thinking skills as needed. Assessments typically take 3–5 hours and may be split into two sessions.

Feedback Session
Results are reviewed in plain language, with explanations of what the findings mean, how they may affect daily life, and practical strategies to support function. This session also provides an opportunity to ask questions.

Written Report
A detailed report summarises the assessment, results, and recommendations. Reports can support diagnosis, rehabilitation, care planning, or discussions with other healthcare professionals.
